Scientific study on the five-second rule

The person arguably the American authority on food science, Harold McGee, writes in the NY Times about the famous five-second rule. Are you listening, young parents?

I guess this means we'll be using the 2.5 second rule from now on.

just catching up on your blog... if your kitchen floor has e. coli or salmonella in large numbers on it, it means you're using it for a bathroom rather than for cooking. Your average kitchen floor is probably covered in staph, in which case the more important factor is how long you wait before eating the item in question, not how long it's been on the floor. I'm going to keep using the 5 second rule myself.
